Villa Nova creates distinctive and eclectic printed fabrics, decorative weaves, sheers, wallcoverings and cushions complemented by a spectrum of plain and semi-plain weaves. Villa Nova’s in-house design team identify trends that shape the look and feel of each launch. The team take inspiration from nature, art exhibitions and emerging trends in fashion. Their initial research takes the form of visual mood boards, collating colour and design inspiration to formulate the first concept ideas for a collection. A design usually starts with hand drawn sketches or hand painted artwork that is often manipulated and reworked to achieve a final design. Each design is developed further using our computer aided design system (CAD) to work out pattern repeats and different colour combinations.

The design team collaborate with expert weavers and printers to select appropriate fabric qualities, weaving techniques and printing processes to realise their ideas and turn each design in to a unique Villa Nova product that fits with the look and style of the overall collection. Through many weaving, printing and colour trials the products are finally edited down to create the complete coordinated collection. The whole process from initial concept to final realisation of the designs and product launch can take between 12 - 18 months, with the design team having critical input at every stage of development, ensuring the final product is of the highest quality.

Each season new fashion forward shades are added to the palette so every new launch has a fresh appeal.

Founded in 1902 by Robert Mould, Romo is a family run business in its fifth generation.

Based in Nottinghamshire, UK, with offices and showrooms in London, Europe and the USA, The Romo Group now has six established brands all of which have their own unique character and style. Each brand has its own in-house design studio creating a diverse range of fabrics, wallcoverings, trimmings and accessories to suit customers’ tastes and needs worldwide.

History

In 1902, Robert Mould, who gave his name to the company, started a small-scale furniture manufacturing business in Nottingham, England. By the 1930s, the company had become wholesalers to the upholstery industry, supplying furnishing fabrics and components for the manufacture of furniture. The company continued to evolve until eventually the upholstery manufacturing side of the business ceased completely and the supply of furnishing fabrics became the company’s primary focus. In the 1980s Romo started its own in-house design studio, injecting a more creative approach to design which redefined Romo as the design-led company it is known as today.

Today

The group is now managed by the founder’s great grandson, Jonathan Mould, along with his niece Lindsay and children Felicity, Emily and Jordan. With extensive international showrooms and distribution, The Romo Group has over 350 employees and is recognised worldwide, with exports totaling approximately 70% of sales. Customer satisfaction and employee welfare are at the core of the company’s values, and although much expanded, Romo remains very much a family business.

As the showcase of our collections, we have showrooms in Europe and the US as well as a global network of agents and distributors. Each showroom offers clients the opportunity to view our range of fabrics and wallcoverings in full length pieces, as well as practical pattern books. Beautifully, furnished with our latest designs, our international showrooms provide an inspiring environment in which to view the diverse range of products across all of our brands.

Queen’s Award for Enterprise 2017

We were awarded the prestigious honour of The Queen’s Award for Enterprise 2017. The award was presented in recognition for the success in International Trade which has been achieved through excellence in the design and marketing of luxury fabrics, wallcoverings and accessories and our expertise in developing export trade through a dedicated international distribution network.

Sharing The Profits

For the last 10 years The Romo Group has donated a portion of its profits to enable Oxfam to implement a program to improve access to education for primary school children in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Jonathan Mould, CEO The Romo Group is dedicated to ensuring the success of the project and has continued to regularly visit the area along with other family and staff members to witness the progression.
